The Feast of the Nativity
Christmas is always a happy time at the Old Kirk. We had a good Christmas lunch - as usual and good turn outs at our Christmas Carol and Christmas Eve services - thanks to the delivery of 2,400 Christmas cards. It is always great to see some new people in church.
The 60th anniversary
In November we celebrated our 60th Anniversary with a ceilidh and special service and lunch. Both events were a big success and it was very encouraging to see the church full, or at least far fuller than usual for the 'Birthday Party Service'.
Fluff and bubble gum
We enjoyed having Primary 6/7 classes up to the church for an SU run reminder of what Christmas is about. The school children were with us for an hour and a half. It is a good length of time - they get an input and then back to the school for all the exciting end of term events there.
Blown away
Regular members and passers by will notice that the garage roof of the church is no more. The gales took the opportunity to test the roof for weaknesses and sent the felt roof into the back garden of the manse. The health visitors across the road watched, helpless and fascinated as the wind tore the roof like a sail and sent it flying. Fortunately no one was harmed and nothing damaged - down below that is.
