Our Parish in West Pilton

P5060040

Prayer

Prayer is one of our priorities at the Old Kirk, because we believe that our own unaided resources are not enough to bring the good things that God wants for us into our lives. We depend on Him, and come to Him regularly in prayer in order to ask for and to receive help, practical solutions, guidance and grace. Our monthly intimations sheet always include items for prayer, or requests for prayers to be made on behalf of others may be made directly to the Minister. Also, a Prayer Group meets on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. for an hour, to which everyone is made most welcome.

Our Cafe

On Mondays from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. the Old Kirk operates a cafe, entrance to which is through the side door of the church off West Pilton View. There are teas, coffees, bacon/sausage/ black pudding/egg/salad rolls, soup, and scones for sale at very reasonable prices. Those with no money will not be turned away, and will be asked to contribute - eventually - what they can. There is also plenty of opportunity to chat, gossip, tell jokes and puzzle over crossword clues.

The Thrift Shop

The Thrift Shop is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10.30 a.m. until 3 p.m. This is part of a joint venture with local churches, Pilton Retreat at Ratho and Pilton Central Association. Clothes, household goods, bric a brac, jewellery games, books etc are on sale at affordable prices. The Thrift shop is located at 28 Ferry Road Drive. All profits go to the local community. Due to fire the thrift shop is closed at the moment but will be re-opened as soon as possible.

Bible Study

There are currently two Bible Studies running at the Old Kirk. There is a weekly study on Sunday evenings for young people in the Church at 5 p.m. (excepting over the Christmas and Easter weeks). Please use at the side door on West Pilton View. Please contact John Hutchison, Parish Assistant, for details. Tel: 0131 538  1622; or email johutch@blueyonder.co.uk

A midweek study is held on the first and third Thursday of every month (but not during July and August), starting at 7 p.m. in the Manse at 24, Pennywell Road. Please contact Rev. Tony Foreman for further details. Tel: 0131 332 4354; or email tony@foreman.org
